Snow
When I was doing my postings on NASPE Forum I asked if anyone knwo of lessons that could be taught to students in the snow. I think that this would be a great way for students to be able to go outside and release some energy, and at the same time they are exposed to something new. I got a response from a teacher that said that she was able to teach cross country skiing in her classes, and although it took a lot of time, it was an experience that her studnets still talk about. I would love to be able to one day have to equipment and be able to do that with my students!!!

I think you are right this is a great idea. Cross country skiing might be pretty difficult with all the equipment but if the school has the equipment why not use it. Another idea might be to go sled riding. Teach them how to safely do it so they know how to stay safe when on their own as well. This is an activity that most children already do and don't even realize that they are walking up a hill to do it all over again. Good Cardiovascular Endurance which as we know works on keeping their heart rate up.
We got taught cross country skiing in my highschool every year. I mean, it was more of an introduction, but we were able to throw on the equipment and mess around in the practice field for football. Ive been a skier all my life, so at times it was boring for me becuase there were so man beginers in the class. But if you can find a way to make it challeging for all levels, the students loved it.
The only thing about cross country skiing and playing out in the snow is that the students would have to go through all of the trouble of bringing extra clothes and stuff. You know they are going to fall and lay in the snow. I would say that this maybe once a year wouold be fine. but other than that i really do not beleive it is worth it.
