YMCA
Some other PE majors and I went to the YMCA in New Castle last week to help kids there learn about fitness. It was both fun and sad at the same time. We had a great time warming the kids up with a game called jog tag, and then we got together an awesome game of ultimate frisbee that we got to play too. The worst part was the attitutude fo some of the kids towards physical activity though. They were not exposed to it as much as they should be, and it was obvious that they were turned off from it. Some kids actually said that they would not participate because they were over weight. That to me was the most frustrating thing to hear since we are trying to educate ourselves to help these kids. I just hope that with a hcange in what we teach can help encourage kids to want to become more and more active.

That's really nice that you went to the YMCA and helped out other children. However, it is sad to hear that the children actually feel that way about physical activity and their weight. The problem is the kids that said they wouldn't participate because of their weight are he ones that really need to get involved. Hopefully next time you go you can make a difference in one of their lives and explain to them that it's important for them to be physically active.
Thats great you went to help kids at the YMCA. It is sad how some of those kids react to any type physical activity. However you got to see one of major problems facing all of us when we got out and become Physical Educators. The first time i run into such a problem i am sure it will shock me the same way. I forget that not everyone is into physical activity as we are, playing sports and working out have always been natural to us. But most people are not unfortunatley.
